Incredible resilience: burned and crying, she clings to trust in humans

Meet Riona! People covered it with gas and set it on fire. She was running down the street covered in flames. The person who called about Riona said the dog was running down the street screaming about the fire. But all he wants to do is love everyone! He is now at the vet for check-up and treatment. His skin burns and his hair is singed. It also has a cut around the neck made with a cord. This girl was abused. And yet it wags its tail. Riona has been sedated, shaved and bathed. About to receive a bandage.

Riona will require many daily bandage changes, which means many medical supplies will be needed. He has old scars from previous injuries, which means he has been a victim of abuse for a long time. Day 3: Riona is very affectionate with humans despite what the man did to her. Dogs are much better than us. Day 6: Time to treat yourself! Riona has a big appetite, which is a blessing! His tail is always wagging. Riona spends the weekend with Mallory so she can continue receiving 24/7 care. This includes numerous dressing changes and wound care. As you can see, Riona is in a very good mood!

Day 7: Riona has a long road ahead of her. It won’t be cheap but it will be the best. I thought, terrible things have happened but things are getting better. In Riona’s case, we see what evil humanity is capable of, but even more so I’ve seen what good people have in them when hundreds gather to help a cub they have never, and perhaps never, met. No matter what I believe, the world has more good than bad, but unfortunately we see and hear about the bad too often. Day 13: Look at his eyes!!! Riona is recovering very well! Day 14: Riona gets up and walks. An itchy baby. Those wounds are healing. Day 23: Happy rainy day from Riona!

Day 25: Today the vet closed up the burns on his face except for his ear and the smaller burns on the right side of his body. This will allow you to no longer have to wear the mask. In 10 to 14 days, when they heal, we can begin adding the tissue expanders to prepare the skin flaps for your legs! Day 30: Just one more happy moment about Riona for today! Day 34! Day 40: She is brave. She is not scared. She is perfection! Day 46: Just stopping by to say hello! Day 48: Riona truly is our warrior princess! Day 50: Riona dancing!!! Day 58: Bandage change protocol for Riona!

Day 64: This is one of Riona’s skin expanders. He is doing well! Day 120: Riona recovers from her last operation (third operation on her body) It’s time for a new adventure, little one, Riona! Almost a year to date and Riona is moving towards her next step in life. His adoptive mother, Mallory, has been his savior, his caregiver, and his absolute angel during his year of recovery. It can be hard to let go, but that’s why we do what we do. Riona was adopted today into a happy new family. Look how happy our daughter is! He is in his forever home with 2 furry little sisters who he loves to play with! Riona is very happy today with friends and in full care and love! Thank you all for your support always!
